SUMMARY:🌍 30 July – Earth Overshoot Day
DESCRIPTION:Earth Overshoot Day marks the date when humanity has used up th
e natural resource budget that should sustain us throughout the entire year
. In 2026\, this date was determined as 30 July.\n🌱 Humanity is current
ly using nature 73% faster than the Earth’s ecosystems can regenerate. Th
is level of consumption means that we are living as if we had 1.73 Earths a
nd represents the highest global ecological overshoot ever recorded in huma
n history.\n📌 Since global ecological overshoot began in the early 1970
s\, the accumulated ecological debt has reached a level equivalent to appro
ximately 20.6 years of the Earth’s biological productivity. If the curren
t level of overshoot continues\, this debt is expected to grow by approxima
tely 0.73 Earth-years each year.\n⚫ Carbon emissions resulting from the
burning of fossil fuels account for 61% of humanity’s total Ecological Fo
otprint. Reducing carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuels by 50% could m
ove Earth Overshoot Day approximately three months later in the year.\n🇹
🇷 In the case of Türkiye\, if everyone in the world consumed resources
at the same rate as people living in Türkiye\, the planet’s annual rene
wable natural resource budget would have been exhausted by 6 June. Approxim
ately 2.3 Earths would be needed to sustain this level of consumption.\nEar
th Overshoot Day reminds us once again that it is not possible to use resou
rces as if they were unlimited and that we need to align our production\, c
onsumption\, energy use\, and lifestyles with the limits of the planet.\n
🌍 Protecting our planet’s limited resources and moving Earth Overshoo
t Day to a later date in the year is a shared responsibility for all of us.
Every step we take today toward a more sustainable future contributes to p
rotecting the natural resources of tomorrow.\nSource: Global Footprint Netw
