According to the report;

🌱 The share of renewable sources in the global energy system is increasing; however, the pace of growth is not sufficient to meet the 2030 targets.

📈 The share of renewable energy in global total final energy consumption increased from 15.6% in 2015 to 18% in 2023. While renewable energy use has steadily increased over the past decade, the electricity sector has been the main driver of this progress.

⚡ In 2023, more than 30% of global electricity consumption was supplied by renewable sources. Renewable-based electricity consumption increased by approximately 79% during the 2013–2023 period, while the use of solar and wind energy increased fivefold. Despite this, the share of renewable energy in transportation remained at only 4.3%.

📌 The report states that the current upward trend in renewable energy is positive but is not fully aligned with the SDG 7 targets and the commitment to triple global renewable energy capacity. In particular, renewable energy use in the heating and transportation sectors needs to be rapidly increased.

The success of the energy transition depends on extending progress in renewable electricity to all areas of economic activity and daily life.
