According to the report;
⏳ Access to clean cooking is increasing; however, the world is still significantly behind the 2030 target.
📉 While 2.7 billion people worldwide lacked access to clean cooking in 2015, this number declined to 2 billion in 2024. Today, approximately 75% of the global population benefits from clean cooking fuels and technologies. However, if the current trend of progress continues, the access rate is expected to rise to only 79% by 2030, leaving approximately 1.8 billion people dependent on polluting cooking methods.
🌍 The region where the access gap is most concentrated is Sub-Saharan Africa. Approximately 970 million people in the region lack access to clean cooking, and this number is projected to reach 1 billion by 2027. Of the 2 billion people without access to clean cooking, 1.5 billion live in rural areas.
📌 According to the report, accelerating progress requires addressing energy, health, development, climate, and food security policies together and developing solutions tailored to local needs for rural areas and countries experiencing the largest access gaps.
Access to clean cooking is critically important not only in terms of energy access, but also for protecting human health, reducing air pollution, and addressing social inequalities.
