Buy local and in-season food. Try to grow some of your own food.
Don’t waste food. Freeze fresh produce and leftovers if you don’t have the chance to eat them before they go bad.
Buy Funny Fruit—many fruits and vegetables are thrown out because their size, shape, or color are not “right”. Buying these perfectly good funny fruit, utilizes food that might otherwise go to waste.
Consume less meat and become vegetarian for one day a week. The meat production industry has a huge impact on the environment.

Istanbul Medipol University‘s Commitment to SDG 2
Zero Hunger
Istanbul Medipol University recognizes the importance of food security, sustainable nutrition, and responsible consumption as essential components of social well-being and sustainable development. Guided by SDG 2, the University is committed to fostering healthy nutrition habits, advancing research in food and health sciences, and supporting vulnerable student groups facing food insecurity.
Medipol promotes access to nutritious and affordable food through campus facilities, including student dining services that provide balanced meal options, subsidized menus, and hygiene-compliant food services. Awareness programs, seminars, and student-led initiatives highlight the importance of sustainable nutrition, food waste reduction, and responsible consumption.
The University works collaboratively with public authorities, NGOs, and community-based organizations to support food assistance and nutrition-related outreach activities, especially for disadvantaged and at-risk populations. Social contribution clubs and volunteer programs organize food donation campaigns and initiatives supporting local communities and vulnerable households.
Through its academic programs and research in health, nutrition, biotechnology, and food sciences, Medipol contributes to scientific knowledge and innovative solutions for hunger reduction, sustainable agriculture, and food safety. Research centers and academic units actively engage in interdisciplinary studies on public health nutrition, food technologies, and sustainable food systems.
Campus initiatives promoting food waste reduction, recycling, and sustainable consumption are integrated into Medipol’s wider sustainability strategy. These actions encourage students and staff to adopt environmentally conscious behaviors and support a culture of responsibility towards food resources.
