Smart Cooking Unit

The “Smart Cooking Unit,” developed by Dr. Ersin Alaca and Istanbul Medipol University graduate student, Dilan Pamuk, has been officially registered by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office (TÜRKPATENT). Designed within the Department of Industrial Design, the project supports inclusive access to cooking by providing a technology-assisted interface suitable for users with limited cooking skills or time constraints.

The Smart Cooking Unit integrates IoT connectivity, a recipe guidance screen, a voice-assisted step-by-step cooking system, and a precision scale, enabling users to prepare meals efficiently and with minimal waste. Its compact ventilation design improves usability in small kitchens, while its digital interface helps users identify suitable recipes based on available ingredients.

This innovation contributes to women’s empowerment and equal participation in household practices by offering accessible, user-friendly solutions that reduce cognitive load, enhance personal competence, and support sustainable consumption patterns aligned with SDG 5: Gender Equality and SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production.
