🌱 The “Sustainability Workshop in the Plastics Industry,” organized within the scope of the Sustainability and Twin Transition Center Project—conducted under the leadership of Istanbul Medipol University Sustainable Development and Twin Transition Application and Research Center (SURKAM), in collaboration with the Digital and Sustainable Future Association (DİSÜDER) and with the support of the Istanbul Development Agency (İSTKA)—was held on September 16, 2026.

♻️ In the first session of the workshop, the current state of the plastics industry in the process of sustainability and transformation, areas of change that may affect competitiveness in the coming years, and the fundamental problems faced by the sector were discussed. Under the headings of green transformation, digital transformation, market and regulations, and operational capacity, the following aspects were evaluated: resource and energy efficiency, measurement and management of carbon emissions, recycled raw materials and waste management, the circular economy, eco-design, monitoring of production data, automation, traceability, and sustainability requirements.

🌐 In the second session, concrete and implementable solution proposals were developed for the identified priority problem areas, focusing on financing, consultancy, green skills, access to technology, and cooperation opportunities among industry stakeholders. The roles that the public, industry organizations, universities, financial institutions and firms can undertake in implementing the proposed solutions were also discussed.

🌱 As Medipol SURKAM, we believe that such endeavors where different stakeholders come together are important for developing collaborations and concrete solutions that will support the sustainable transformation of the plastics industry.
