İstanbul Medipol University took part in the Climate Ambassadors Training Camp, which supports youth engagement in the fight against climate change, represented successfully by SURKAM student assistant İclal Selvi.

Held in Antalya from February 9–12, the camp brought together young climate ambassadors and experts from across Turkiye.

Purpose and Youth Engagement

Organized by the Directorate of Climate Change, the camp aimed to raise awareness and strengthen youth participation in decision-making processes. Participants explored topics such as climate policies, green financing, and local action plans, while taking active roles in leadership elections and working groups. Discussions on COP 29 and COP 30 strategies emphasized the importance of young voices in shaping global climate action.

Global Goals, Local Actions

In collaboration with the Directorate of Climate Change and UNICEF Turkiye, the camp highlighted Turkiye’s 2030 emission reduction targets and the role of youth in achieving them. Deputy Director of Climate Change Orhan Solak stressed the significance of active youth participation, while Chizuru Iwata from UNICEF Turkiye discussed the impacts of the climate crisis on children and youth. Enise Ademoğlu Matbay from SANKO Holding shared insights on sustainable industrial transformation.

Next Steps

By the end of the camp, participants outlined actionable local and national plans. A digital reporting and monitoring platform is also being developed in collaboration with UNICEF and the Directorate of Climate Change to support these initiatives.

At Istanbul Medipol University, we remain committed to taking an active role in the fight against climate change and working together for a sustainable future!
