Vice Director Asst. Prof. Dr. Elif YURTOĞLU PEK participated on behalf of SURKAM in the panel titled “City Talks Towards COP31: Just Transition: For Whom and How?”, organized by the Marmara Municipalities Union (MMU) Center for Urban Policies and the Center for Sustainability and Climate Change.

At the panel, which was prepared in line with the priorities of the COP31 Action Agenda, the economic, social, and governance dimensions of a just transition were discussed from different perspectives.

The panel began with an opening speech by Güzin ÖZTÜRK, Member and Stakeholder Relations Manager at UN Global Compact Türkiye, who emphasized that the fight against global warming does not affect everyone equally and highlighted the need for a fair transition process.

The session then continued with Dr. Mühdan SAĞLAM, Director of the Center for Energy and Climate Change Studies at the Economic Policy Research Foundation of Turkey (TEPAV); Berfu ÇOPUR, Researcher at the Sustainable Economics and Finance Research Association (SEFİA); and Hülya ÇEŞMECİ CENGİZ, Environmental Justice Program Specialist at the Center for Spatial Justice, who addressed the just transition steps that are critical to achieving climate goals from the perspectives of local development, employment opportunities, technical infrastructure, and participation.
