As Istanbul Medipol University Sustainable Development and Twin Transition Application and Research Center (SURKAM), we participated in the Beykoz Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan (SECAP) – Governance for Beykoz from Local to Global: Beykoz Climate Workshop, organized under the coordination of Beykoz Municipality Directorate of Climate Change and Zero Waste.

Held on 6 August 2026 at the Beykoz Municipality Council Hall, the workshop was conducted with a collaborative approach in line with the goals of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, increasing climate change adaptation capacity, and creating low-carbon, climate-resilient cities.

Within the scope of the workshop, the district’s greenhouse gas emissions inventory was evaluated, climate risks were addressed, and applicable mitigation and adaptation strategies were identified.

Workshop Stakeholders

The main institutions and organizations that participated in the action plan workshop, reflecting a multi-stakeholder governance approach in the fight against climate change, are as follows:

– Local Governments and Municipalities: Beykoz Municipality, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (Climate Change Branch Directorate), and other district municipalities of Istanbul.
– Public Institutions and Provincial/District Directorates: Istanbul Provincial Directorate of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change; Provincial and District Directorates of Agriculture and Forestry; Kanlıca Forestry Operations Directorate; 1st Regional Directorate of Meteorology; District Directorates of National Education, Police, and Health; Land Registry Directorate; and the Social Assistance and Solidarity Foundation.
– Universities: Istanbul Medipol University, Turkish-German University, and Beykoz University.
– Public Utilities and Infrastructure Organizations: İSKİ (Istanbul Water and Sewerage Administration) and İGDAŞ.
– Civil Society and Professional Organizations: TAP (Portable Battery Manufacturers and Importers Association) and the Anatolian Side Chamber of Market Vendors and Street Tradespeople.
– Private Sector and Business Representatives: Representatives of the private sector and local businesses in the region, including Medistate Hospital and A’jia Hotel, as well as neighborhood headmen.
