According to the report;
✨ Progress is being made in energy efficiency; however, the global rate of improvement remains behind the targets.
While global primary energy intensity stood at 4.22 MJ/USD in 2015, it declined to 3.76 MJ/USD in 2023. The decrease in energy intensity indicates that less energy is being used to generate economic value and that energy efficiency is improving.
📉 Nevertheless, the annual improvement rate in energy intensity declined from 2.4% in 2022 to 1.5% in 2023. According to the report, in order to achieve the 2030 energy efficiency target, the average annual improvement rate needs to rise to approximately 4.2% during the 2024–2030 period.
🌍 During the 2010–2023 period, no major region achieved the annual improvement rate of 2.6% set under SDG 7.3. North America and Europe came closest to the target with 2.3%.
